GUIDE TO INTUITIVE HEALING:
FIVE STEPS TO PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, AND SEXUAL WELLNESS
We are the keepers of our own healing. We are the keepers of an intuitive intelligence so powerful it can tell us how to heal. The time has come for each of us to claim it again. Never forget: It is your right to heal. It is your right to look inside yourself for the answers.
We are the vanguard of a health care revolution as profound as civil rights or feminism. A world-wide uprising fueled by courageous people like yourself, demanding that their spiritual and intuitive voices be honored in the healing process. Your passion makes a difference. It will change things. It already has. Attitudes are shifting. I meet medical practitioners and patients everywhere who rail against the icy sterility of technological interventions alone--no matter how miraculous--when simple kindness, love and an awe for our inner vision is sacrificed.
We physicians have forgotten so much. We desperately need to restore our sense of the visionary, fight to keep the spirit of medicine alive. The future of medicine lies in the integration of technological advances with intuition, the wedding of heart and mind. Too many in health care have sadly lost sight of this. So much so that the designated healers of our culture can't even remember they can see. They walk around with a blindness that is deadly. A blindness that dictates in traditional psychiatry, for example, that "claims of sixth sense and clairvoyance" be written off as psychotic delusion or fraud. This is what I was taught in medical school at USC, and during my four years of psychiatric residency at UCLA. It is still the standard for medical practice today. Visionless, too many caregivers fail to grasp that the healing of ourselves, our patients, our beloved planet that is being defiled is contingent on the awakening of our compassion, intuitive foresight, and humility for the mystery of Spirit.
I’m defining intuition as a potent form of inner wisdom, not mediated by the rational mind. Accessible to us all, it’s a still, small voice inside--an unflinching truth teller committed to our well-being. You may experience intuition as a gut feeling, hunch, a physical sensation, a snapshot-like flash, or a dream. Always a friend, it keeps a vigilant eye on our bodies, letting us know if something is out of synch.
We each possess an intuitive healing code within us that contains the blueprints for our health, happiness and survival of everything that is good here on earth. This code is written in a language of silence, metaphor, imagery, energy, and knowings that may seem alien until we are taught to decipher it. I want to share what I know of this code with you, although I'm always learning more. As you begin to understand its nuances, its secrets, the code will seem like the most familiar language of all, one you uttered before you ever had a memory of anything material, one that doesn't require a spoken voice to comprehend.
My expertise is as psychiatrist who specializes in intuition. I'm writing this book to introduce you to practical techniques I use in my life and teach to patients every day about using the power of intuition to heal. As you read this book, you'll learn to truly listen to your body's needs. You'll recognize warning signals and act on them to prevent illness. I'll give you skills to access vital information from meditation, dreams, and remote viewing (a way of intuitively tuning in), to make sense of your life when it's most confusing. The insights you gain from these techniques will lend reason, compassion, and meaning to events such as illness, loss, or despair that the rational mind alone has a limited capacity to appreciate. You'll be shown a method of utilizing your body's subtle energies to heal pain, panic, depression and other symptoms.
Reach back in your experience. See if you can't remember a special time when you listened, really listened, to what seemed invisible, yet felt so true. Maybe it was an inner call to enter a career, a sudden inexplicable attraction to the person you were destined to marry, or simply a strong impulse to contact a good friend you haven't seen for years. That indisputable sense of rightness is an echo of the code I'm speaking of. You deserve such certainty about all decisions. Even if you feel out of touch with it now, let me help you find it again. This is the kind of intuition I've built my psychiatric career and personal life around. Without it, I don't feel complete. Without it, my patients only get a fraction of who I am as a healer, and suffer as a result. Without it, I miss the joy, clarity, and vision to positively catalyze changes in my patient's lives and my own. I won't allow anything to keep me from that anymore.
In my earlier book, SECOND SIGHT, I shared with you the struggles I went though reconciling my intuitive skills with the world of science. I told you of the loneliness and fear I felt as an only child in Los Angeles, who could sense the unspoken and know things about people without them saying a word. My abilities frightened my two physician parents. I wasn't allowed to talk about my premonitions at home. In desperation, I used to gaze up at the stars and pray that a spaceship would land in my front yard, taking me away to my real home. The alienation I felt in those days is not necessary for any of us now.
Today, intuition is my greatest passion. I am grateful to the many angels in my life, teachers who've patiently walked me though my fears. In my psychiatric practice I now depend on intuition for every aspect of patient care. The messages I receive from images, dreams, and knowings direct me, along with my intellect. I teach patients to trust their inner voice as an authentic source of truth. I am blessed to travel around the country giving workshops on intuitive healing to auditoriums full of extraordinary people--health care professionals and general audiences alike--who long to embrace their ability to see. Our numbers are rapidly expanding. We can now seek out each other for support. The great gift I received from publishing SECOND SIGHT is freedom to acknowledge my intuitive voice and speak out about it, despite my fear of what my medical peers would think.
Response from readers, colleagues, patients, and workshop participants has been more generous than I ever dreamed. I've received thousands of letters and calls from every kind of person you can imagine, all dedicated to finding their inner voice: physicians, rabbis, nuns, prison inmates, schizophrenic patients, housewives, showgirls, police officers, and high school honor students. Even a group of women in Oklahoma--all about ninety--teachers who've been guided by their intuitive insights to inspire young children learn. These are my heroes. These are people who've seen the good that comes from allowing the invisible code I speak of to manifest in loving service.
This is not a fringe phenomenon. It has gone mainstream. So many of us are tired of staying numb and asleep, long for the kind of exhilaration only intuitive and spiritual awakening can bring. Come wake up with me. Begin to lift the veils before your eyes. Heaven is not some far away place, separated from life. Intuition will enable you to see the beauty, passion, and exquisite light that has always been there.
I've called this book INTUITIVE HEALING to emphasize the intuitive ingenuity we all have to tap into, maintain and optimize our life force. The main theme is simple: our intuition can open us up to our spirituality and show us how to be more healthy and whole. If you're in good health, you'll want to know about intuition because it can help you stay well and recognize messages that prevent illness. If you or your loved ones need healing, you'll also want intuition to show the way.
I’d like you to think of healing in the broadest terms. It may involve a complete resolution of symptoms, a “cure,” or it may not. On a profound intuitive level, it also pertains to the self-knowledge and soul growth achievable during illness, or as death approaches. Our perception of these passages is key. In good health or ill, if we aim for self-compassion and a deepening link with the divine, we’re engaging in an act of love, inevitably transformative.
To map out the healing process I'm presenting a framework of five intuitive steps, bringing definition to a fundamentally nonverbal realm. You can depend on these steps, as I do, to clarify all aspects of your life. Count on them to guide you. They can augment decisions you make about traditional medical care or offer creative alternatives. The five steps are:
• Step 1. Notice Your Beliefs
• Step 2. Be In Your Body
• Step 3. Sense Your Body's Subtle Energy
• Step 4. Ask For Inner Guidance
• Step 5. Listen To Your Dreams
No matter what you're dealing with, these steps are cogent tools. I urge you not to leave your healing to chance. By being accountable for your intuitive needs you can better nurture yourself. Throughout the book I'll discuss the steps in depth to illustrate how you can draw on them to take an instinctively informed, pro-active role in your health.
INTUITIVE HEALING is divided into three sections. In The Body, I highlight the vital role intuition and your subtle energy system have in maintaining your physical health, in self-diagnosis, pain control, and in accelerating healing. This section also explores why death is not something to fear and how we can intuitively tap into it as a creative resource in life. A primer is presented on choosing health care practitioners who blend spiritual, intuitive and technical skills.
The second part, Emotions and Relationships, stresses how your path as spiritual warrior is to dig to the core of your emotional life, and mend wounds with compassion. It illustrates how intuition leads to breakthroughs in anxiety, depression and emotional blocks, even if traditional psychotherapy hasn't. It describes the importance of energetic centering and protection. You'll learn about the intuitive use of antidepressants and other medications. You'll see how intuition can strengthen your relationships, salvage bad ones, help you select well-matched partners.
The third part, Sexuality, presents sexual energy as a powerful connector, an oasis for nurturing our troubled spirituality. Sex is more than physical love: it is an intuitive way of being in the world; an energetic opening to life, nature, spirit. It can make you feel vibrant, bring vitality to the rest of life. You'll discover how to awaken your sexuality whether you are in a relationship or not, and direct erotic power to heal symptoms from depression to back pain.
Years of medical practice have taught me that our physical, emotional, and sexual well-being are bridges to one other, an elegant interplay. Not to acknowledge their interconnections precludes complete healing. We are all multifaceted, though we may have drifted far from our power. I'm asking you to be brave, to reconcile your many sides with more heart than you've experienced before. If you split off even one aspect you inflict a violence on yourself. Re-focus on the five steps, integrators which will hone your energy, keep your health at its peak.
There comes a time when we must decide if we are committed to a life based on heart. If so, then with regard to healing this means coming to compassionate terms with the light and dark forces that shape us. Nothing excluded. Remember this when you greet all the angels and beasts on your path. As your heart opens, so does your intuition. Your intuition will teach you how to see and how to love. It instills in you a renewed faith to face anything.
As I write this book it is the year 5758 in the Jewish calendar, the year enya, which means, "You shall intuit." In this spirit, I invite you to delve deep as you read this book, perhaps travel to new territory. Try to stay open. Risk with me. There is magic in what is invisible. Allow yourself to be touched. Be innocent again so nothing is kept from you. The intuitive code can be felt everywhere. In the warmth of your breath, your body, in the soft rustling of leaves in the wind, in the sea at midnight. Be very quiet. Listen carefully... the moon, the earth, the stars all know its secret. Now let them whisper it to you.
